Pictures
furnished by members are credited with gratitude in parentheses at
the end of each caption. Those not credited were taken by IRMA's executive
director (except those you don't like, which everyone denies ever having
seen).
This is the first of seven pages. To see a full-size picture, click

At Chico...
"Everybody was there...come from everywhere for the purpose of
learning something...and for the further purpose of having a good
time."
―See the last caption for the rest of Bernard DeVoto's
quote.

Karen Liechty, conference
coordinator, and Beverly Magley, editor of Montana Magazine, put
the finishing touches on the registration materials for the soon-to-arrive
members. As IRMA's president, Beverly served as the magazine's
representative host for the 2002 conference. |
 |
McRay Magleby enlisted Gloria
Anderson to help introduce the opening session, "Creative
Inspirations." His point was that creativity extends throughout an
artist's life, not solely focused on magazine design. |
 |
Introductions at the opening
session included John Thomson, CEO and publisher of Canadian Geographic.
John, a former president of IRMA, was made an honorary member
this year by the IRMA
board of directors. |
 |
Climbing on horses proved
popular among IRMA members. Here, Matthew Holliday, editor of Pennsylvania
Magazine, is ready to ride. |
 |
A
group of IRMA members heads for the Montana range. |
 |
Surrounded by his posse, Tim
Sayles, editor of Chesapeake Bay Magazine, spurs them onward. |
 |
Usually concerned with magazine
racks, Andrew Jackson and wife Karen find a rack of a different kind.
Among other responsibilities as director of operations, Andrew handles
circulation at Vermont Life. (Andrew Jackson) |
 |
Was this
another wrong turn to find the right place for those massages? Well, really,
Dorothy Kelly went up the mountain on a sight-seeing excursion with Andrew
and Karen Jackson. (Andrew Jackson) |
 |
You can lead
an IRMA member to water, but they don't drink much of that at conferences,
anyway. It wasn't scheduled on the program, but the urge for midnight
volleyball drew them to the hot springs of Chico Pool. (David
Dauer, director of operations & creative services at Offshore) |
 |
Don't worry,
IRMA editors always carefully read what others write, whether in a magazine
or on a sign next to a swimming pool (or on a Web site for that matter). |
